Zoo Leipzig opens new Feuerland marine exhibit

Zoo Leipzig has officially opened ‘Feuerland’, a new coastal and marine world inspired by the landscape of southern South America. The project, which took five years to complete, spans 5,500 square meters and features a five-million-liter saltwater basin.

A major highlight of the exhibit is a more than 100-meter-long underwater tunnel, described as the longest of its kind in Europe, allowing visitors to observe marine life from beneath the water. The facility is designed to house Humboldt penguins, seals, sea birds, and marine pelicans.

To enhance the visitor experience and animal welfare, the zoo included a wave system to simulate natural conditions and beach areas for animal rest. Visitors can also observe animals from the ‘Pacifico’, a wooden ship built to mimic the Pacific coast, or watch feedings and medical training sessions on a large LED wall.
