Zoo Rostock introduces Kulan stallion and celebrates otter birth
Zoo Rostock has introduced a two-year-old Kulan stallion, Mushu, to its facility as part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP). Transferred from Tierpark Berlin on August 10, Mushu is intended to breed with two fertile females to help preserve the genetic diversity of this critically endangered subspecies of the Asian wild ass.
Additionally, the zoo reported the first Eurasian otter birth in its history. A female otter was born on June 27 to parents Heidi and Ivan. The newborn is developing well, with medical examinations and vaccinations scheduled for late August.
