Zoo Schwerin begins setup for Wild Lights festival
Zoo Schwerin has begun preparations for its inaugural light festival, ‘Wild Lights,’ which is scheduled to run from October 9 to November 29, 2026. An international team of artists, technicians, and zoo staff is currently unloading containers and sorting large-scale light installations featuring animal and plant figures.
The festival will feature a nocturnal walking path where the installations are integrated into the zoo’s existing landscape, including trees, paths, and water surfaces. The event aims to highlight the theme of species conservation by drawing attention to endangered animals through its curated displays.
Construction is taking place during regular zoo operating hours. To minimize impact on the animals, the team is taking precautions to limit noise and other potential stressors. Zoo Director Tim Schikora noted that the animals are accustomed to visitors and various activities on the grounds.
