Zooplus launches new marketplace in Germany

Zooplus has launched a new marketplace in Germany, expanding its online assortment by 10,000 additional products. Approximately 65 percent of these new items fall within the pet supplies category. Pierre-Yves Delforge, Chief Merchandising Officer at Zooplus, stated that the move responds to customer demand for greater variety and a more seamless shopping experience. The marketplace model is intended to help small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as startups in the pet industry, access a large European target audience.

To support this expansion, Zooplus is utilizing artificial intelligence to optimize product information, such as completing missing details regarding size or color and improving product descriptions. This follows successful marketplace implementations in Germany and France.

In related industry developments, Rewe subsidiary ZooRoyal has opened its first specialist store outside of its Hamburg pilot region in Düsseldorf. Additionally, industry analysts project the global pet food market could reach 263.8 billion by 2036.
