Zoos report new animal arrivals including cougar cubs and gorillas
Several American zoos have announced new animal arrivals and births. At Dew Haven in Mount Vernon, Maine, two healthy male cougar cubs were born on August 13, 2026. The cubs feature camouflaging spots that typically fade as they mature. Visitors may have opportunities to view the cubs on Saturdays and Sundays between noon and 1:30 p.m., though viewing is subject to the animals' well-being.
In St. Paul, Minnesota, the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory has welcomed two western lowland gorillas, Kamba and Nora, to its Gorilla Forest. The gorillas arrived from the Brookfield Zoo Chicago as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' Gorilla Species Survival Plan, an initiative aimed at maintaining healthy populations of the critically endangered species. Kamba is 22 years old, while Nora is 12.
