Zottegem housing affordability investigated in new regional series

In Zottegem, Belgium, the affordability of housing has become a central concern for residents, ranging from young families seeking their first home to individuals managing single incomes after relationship breakdowns. The local media outlet NUUS has launched a series titled ‘Wonen in onze streek’ (Living in our region) to investigate these challenges.

The series examines how different demographics define affordable living, whether through manageable rent, the ability to save for a purchase, or the long-term costs of energy and maintenance. The investigation aims to compare personal experiences with local housing policies and professional real estate insights to determine what choices residents must make, such as downsizing or moving further from the city center, to remain in their community.
