Zoukak Collective to premiere ‘Traces of Rupture’ in Segesta

The Lebanese Zoukak Collective will premiere its new theatrical production, ‘Traces of Rupture’, at the Teatro Antico di Segesta on August 20 as part of the Segesta Teatro Festival. The performance is a co-production between the festival and Gibellina Capitale Italiana dell’Arte Contemporanea 2026.

The production draws parallels between the histories of Gibellina, Italy, and Beirut, Lebanon—two cities shaped by significant destruction and subsequent reconstruction. Developed during an artistic residency in the Belice region, the 65-minute show integrates local memories, testimonies, and poetic texts to explore themes of resilience and social resistance.

The project highlights the shared experiences of these Mediterranean locations. While Gibellina utilized art to rebuild its identity following catastrophe, the Zoukak Collective brings perspectives from a Lebanon marked by war and economic crisis, including the impact of the 2020 Beirut port explosion which damaged the collective’s own historic theatre.
