Zrenjanin street faces decay due to lack of maintenance

The Petra Drapšina street in the Šećerana neighborhood of Zrenjanin is facing significant deterioration due to a lack of maintenance. The street, which features a unique architectural ensemble including the Elekova vila monument, a row of century-old lime trees, and the old sugar refinery complex, is one of the few remaining city streets paved with yellow clinker brick.

Residents report that the brick roadway is heavily damaged, making vehicle passage difficult or impossible during heavy rain. The sidewalks are in even worse condition, with some sections becoming impassable. Additionally, unpaved areas near residential buildings turn into mud and puddles after rainfall, creating mobility issues for children and the elderly.

While previous discussions regarding the renovation of the street have occurred, no work has commenced. The local community of ‘Dositej Obradović’ previously stated that repairs are complex, requiring the renovation of the rainwater sewage system before addressing the roadway, sidewalks, and trees. However, the sewage system has yet to be addressed.
