Zsombolya Hungarian Community Meeting and Óbecse Lock Festival Highlight Regional Heritage
The Zsombolya Hungarian community gathered on July 24 at the Zsombolyi Cultural House for a multi‑day celebration that featured exhibitions on local brick‑making, a display titled “Five Years of My Life – Deportation to the Bărăgan, 1951‑1956,” musical performances, sports matches and speeches by RMDSZ officials, including Molnár András, and a welcome from Hungarian honorary consul Tamás Péter.
In Óbecse, Serbia, the local tourism board organized a one‑night “Evening at the Lock” event at the historic Óbecse lock. Attendees enjoyed boat trips, tastings of local craft beers and wines, an open‑gate tour of the lock museum, and a historical lecture by museum historian Nemanja Karapandžić. Director Ferenc Edvin said the aim was to bring the lock to life for residents and visitors.
Both events showcased regional cultural heritage, drawing participants from neighboring villages and emphasizing the preservation of local traditions.
