ZSSK increases security on Slovakian regional trains
Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ZSSK) is increasing security measures on regional train routes in response to rising vandalism and aggressive behavior toward staff and passengers. Starting September 21, the company deployed six private security service (SBS) workers, a number set to increase to nine on October 1.
The security deployment targets specific high-risk routes, including Prešov – Lipany, Košice – Moldava nad Bodvou, Poprad-Tatry – Kežmarok, Zvolen – Levice, and Bratislava – Malacky. These measures aim to complement existing protocols such as cooperation with the Police Force of the Slovak Republic, onboard camera systems, and body cameras worn by train personnel.
ZSSK reported various issues, including passengers traveling without valid tickets, tampering with vehicle safety elements, and throwing stones at trains. Staff members have reported significant psychological pressure due to verbal abuse and physical obstructions, such as passengers blocking train doors to prevent ticket inspections.
