ZSSK requires registration for student free train travel

Students and children traveling for free on ZSSK trains in Slovakia must ensure their eligibility is registered in the carrier's system. While ZSSK accepts electronic ISIC cards and virtual discount passes via the IDeme app, a mobile ID alone does not automatically guarantee free travel.

Specific rules apply based on age: children under six travel free in second class without registration. However, children aged six to 15, as well as students up to age 26, must have their 100-percent discount entitlement registered in the ZSSK system.

To register, students can verify their status using a personal identification number if their school data is in the Ministry of Education system, or by using a chip-based school ID or ISIC. Alternatively, a prescribed ZSSK school attendance certificate can be used. Students from foreign schools may provide original certificates issued by their institution.
