Zubeen Khetra memorial inaugurated in Guwahati

The Zubeen Khetra memorial space was officially inaugurated at Rajgarh in Guwahati on September 1. Dedicated to the life and legacy of cultural icon and singer Zubeen Garg, the memorial is located beneath the historic Abhinaya building.

Inaugurated by Garima Saikia Garg, the artist’s wife, the space was established through the initiative of cultural activist and journalist Hemanta Sarma. The memorial is designed as a secular and inclusive sanctuary, intended to be open to all individuals regardless of caste, community, language, or religion.

The ceremony featured interfaith participation, with religious leaders and representatives from various traditions offering prayers, sacred chants, and blessings. Garima Saikia Garg noted that the area holds significant personal meaning, as Zubeen Garg lived in Rajgarh for nearly 15 years. Hemanta Sarma stated that the objective is to ensure Garg’s music and humanist philosophy remain accessible to everyone.
