Zubin Potok mass grave excavations confirm 23 victims
Excavations in Zubin Potok have concluded, confirming the discovery of human remains belonging to 23 individuals across three mass grave sites in Kalludër and Jabukë. The Government Commission on Missing Persons reported that the four-week process involved evaluative excavations, exhumation, and medico-legal documentation.
Authorities suspect the remains may belong to a group of 23 Albanians, including doctors, professors, and lawyers, who disappeared in April 1999. The investigation follows a two-year probe into suspected war crimes, which has already led to the arrest of three suspects.
During the operation, Kosovo Police also uncovered an arsenal of weapons, uniforms, and military equipment near the excavation sites. The next phase of the process will involve forensic examinations and DNA analysis at the Institute of Forensic Medicine to confirm identities and officially inform the families of the missing.
