Zucchini season inspires recipes and planting guides across Czechia and Slovakia
The start of the zucchini harvest has prompted a surge of home‑cooking ideas, notably a simple recipe for zucchini patties with cheese and garlic that can be prepared by beginners. The dish calls for grated zucchini, hard cheese (such as Gouda, cheddar or Edam), garlic, eggs, flour and herbs, and is fried until golden, optionally served with a yogurt dip.
Gardeners in Slovakia are advised to sow zucchini in April or May, spacing plants 50‑100 cm apart in sunny, well‑drained soil enriched with fertilizer. Seedlings should be hardened off before transplanting, watered regularly, and protected from fungal diseases with fungicides or natural oil‑based treatments. Regular feeding and adequate watering are essential for a plentiful harvest, which typically appears 60‑65 days after sowing.
