Tegut supermarkets face uncertain future as 36 locations remain unsold

The retail landscape in Germany is undergoing significant changes as Migros Zürich, the owner of Tegut, proceeds with the sale of its supermarket chain. While Rewe, Edeka, and Tante Enso have secured a combined 252 Tegut locations, 36 stores remain without a buyer and are subject to an ongoing bidding process. The Federal Cartel Office approved Rewe’s acquisition of 38 stores under specific conditions to prevent excessive market concentration.

In other news, Spanish olive oil producers are facing economic hardship despite record harvests. Falling market prices have dropped wholesale rates below production costs, leading industry groups to discuss supply reductions to stabilize the market. Meanwhile, in Bavaria, a general practitioner in the Coburg district is in custody following allegations of systematic sexual abuse of minors under the guise of a scientific study. Authorities have seized evidence and are questioning hundreds of patients to determine the scale of the suspected crimes.
