Zulia aims to add 500 MW to electrical system by 2026
Zulia Governor Luis Caldera has announced an investment plan to address an electrical deficit in the region estimated between 400 and 600 megawatts (MW). The strategy focuses on the G/J Rafael Urdaneta Thermoelectric Complex, specifically aiming to reactivate generating units Termozulia 1, Termozulia 5, and Termozulia 7.
The initiative seeks to incorporate 500 MW into the electrical system by the end of 2026 to stabilize the service for residential, commercial, and agricultural sectors. In addition to increasing generation, the plan includes infrastructure improvements such as the replacement of 6,000 transformers and the renovation of distribution lines to reduce power outages and improve load management.
