Zulia government restores Maracaibo sewage lines and Padilla sidewalks

Governor Luis Caldera of Zulia state, together with Environment Secretary Miguel Perozo, announced the replacement of sewage collectors in several communities of the Francisco Eugenio Bustamante parish in western Maracaibo. The works include 800 metres of new pipes in the Felipe Pirela, Nueva Independencia and San Rafael neighborhoods and are part of the Plan Rector de Atención a las Aguas Servidas. About 3,000 families – roughly 10,000 residents – are expected to benefit, and the project also aims to recover potable water for the municipalities of Mara and Maracaibo.

Following complaints from residents that the government had destroyed the sidewalks on Padilla Avenue six months earlier, the Zulia authorities began rebuilding the sidewalks. Workers have started filling the gaps that caused injuries, responding to community pressure and a local media report. The reconstruction effort is modest, with only a few crews visible, but signals the administration’s intent to address the safety concerns raised by locals.
