Zulia Medical College demands action over electricity crisis
The Medical College of Zulia state has issued an urgent demand for transparency and a contingency plan regarding the ongoing electricity crisis in the region. President Dianela Parra warned that frequent power outages, sometimes lasting up to 12 hours, are destroying essential biological supplies and medications, such as insulin, due to the lack of continuous refrigeration.
Medical representatives are calling for the prioritization of uninterrupted electricity for hospitals and clinics, as well as the creation of collection centers to safeguard critical supplies for vulnerable patients. They also requested that power cuts be predictable, with at least 48 hours' notice, to mitigate the psychological and physical impact on the population living in extreme temperatures.
In response to the energy deficit, Minister of Electric Energy Rolando Alcalá announced the incorporation of 150 megawatts into the national grid through the activation of the Termozulia 5 generation unit, which is intended to directly impact the Zulia region.
