Zulia’s Maracaibo hosts IV Latin American Tropical Livestock Expo

The fourth Expo Congreso Latinoamericano de Ganadería Tropical opened at the Tibisay Hotel in Maracaibo, Zulia, with participation from more than 180 companies and the exhibition of 400 cattle. Organizers and regional officials highlighted the event’s economic and social impact, noting the creation of jobs and the promotion of new biotechnologies such as embryo transfer, artificial insemination and in‑vitro fertilisation.

Veterinarian José Luis Rodríguez explained that embryo transfer can multiply elite genetics by moving ovocytes from a high‑performance donor to recipient cows, allowing producers to improve herds rapidly. He cited a Brahman cow yielding 25‑30 viable ovocytes per month, with five to six embryos suitable for transfer.

The governor of Zulia, Luis Caldera, declared the city “the livestock capital of Venezuela,” and praised the support of national authorities. The expo serves as a platform for producers to adopt modern breeding techniques and strengthen the country’s agro‑industrial supply chain.
