Zuma opens first California location in San Diego

The London-born luxury Japanese restaurant brand Zuma has opened its first California location in downtown San Diego. Situated inside The Guild Hotel, the new 12,000-square-foot space can accommodate approximately 220 guests.

The restaurant features a modern izakaya concept, centered around a sushi counter and a robata grill. The menu includes items such as black cod marinated in hoba leaf and Norwegian king crab. The beverage program emphasizes Japanese spirits, offering a collection of more than 40 varieties of sake.

Designed by the brand’s in-house team, the interior draws inspiration from the Baja California landscape, utilizing stone elements, monolithic boulder walls, and natural textures. The venue includes indoor and outdoor dining areas, a garden terrace, a wraparound bar, and a dedicated DJ booth.
