Zumbrota highway to be dedicated to fallen officer Gary L. Schroeder Jr
A four-mile stretch of Highway 58 in Zumbrota, Minnesota, will be officially dedicated as the Officer/Firefighter Gary L. Schroeder Jr. Memorial Highway this Saturday, September 12.
Schroeder, a husband and father of three, served as a Zumbrota police officer for 18 years and was also a member of the local fire department. He passed away in April 2023 at age 46. His death was classified as an in-the-line-of-duty death resulting from a long battle with work-related PTSD.
The memorial legislation was approved by the Minnesota Senate and signed into law by Governor Tim Walz. The dedication ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the Zumbrota Fire Station, featuring speeches regarding Schroeder’s legacy and his advocacy for mental health care within the first responder community.
