Zurich Airport drug seizure: 27 couriers arrested

The Zurich Cantonal Police, in collaboration with the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG), seized more than 1,300 kilograms of narcotics at Zurich Airport during the third quarter. The seizure included approximately 963 kilograms of marijuana, 319 kilograms of khat, 14 kilograms of hashish, 11 kilograms of cocaine, and smaller amounts of mushrooms and methamphetamine.

Authorities arrested 27 drug couriers, consisting of 18 men and 9 women representing 15 different nationalities. One notable discovery involved over one kilogram of cocaine hidden inside lollipops and other food items within a passenger's suitcase. This individual was traveling from São Paulo to Dublin.

Common departure points for the smugglers included Bangkok, Tel Aviv, and São Paulo. Other origins identified included Hong Kong, Toronto, Phnom Penh, Barcelona, and Johannesburg.
