Zurich Airport records lowest on‑time performance among European hubs while serving as key gateway for German travelers

Eurocontrol’s week‑29 data for July 2026 shows Zurich Airport achieved only 46 % on‑time departures, placing it at the bottom of the European ranking for the 20 busiest airports. Turkish airports topped the list, with Istanbul Airport at 81 % punctuality. Overall European air traffic was 1.9 % higher than the previous year, highlighting capacity pressures.

Despite the delays, Zurich Airport remains the primary international gateway for passengers from Switzerland’s Bodensee region and southwestern Germany. Major German cities such as Konstanz, Friedrichshafen, Singen and Radolfzell can reach the airport in 45‑95 minutes by car, using routes via the A7, A1 and A51 highways, or via ferry connections across Lake Constance. Travelers are advised to allow extra time for parking and terminal access.
