Zurich Airport tests autonomous electric shuttles
Zurich Airport has commenced testing two fully automated electric shuttles operating at Level 4 autonomy. These vehicles travel without an on-board driver or security personnel, making the airport one of the first in Europe to test autonomous driving at this technical level within an operational environment.
The project is a collaboration with the technology company WeRide, a partnership that began in March 2025. The shuttles are currently restricted to a fixed route used exclusively for transporting employees. While no staff are present inside the vehicles, the operation is continuously monitored from a central control station to allow for intervention in unforeseen situations. This testing phase is scheduled to continue through the end of 2026.
