Zurich Cantonal Police receive first of two new water cannons

The Zurich Cantonal Police have received the first of two new water cannons as part of a 5.2 million Swiss franc replacement program. The vehicle was presented at the Neubüel traffic base in Wädenswil on October 23, 2026, by Security Director Mario Fehr and Police Commander Marius Weyermann.

The new equipment is intended to replace vehicles that have been in service for 27 years. This procurement introduces the fourth generation of water cannons to the force, which has utilized such vehicles since 1969. The equipment is designated for public order services and managing extraordinary security situations.

Following the handover, police personnel will undergo training on the new vehicle over the coming months. The second water cannon is scheduled to be delivered during 2027.
