Allgäu cattle drive dates set for 2026

The 2026 schedule for the Viehscheid (cattle drives) in the Allgäu region has been announced. Major events include the large-scale drive in Obermaiselstein on September 19, 2026, where approximately 1,300 animals return from eleven alpine pastures. Other scheduled dates include Bad Hindelang, Balderschwang, Oberstaufen, and Oberstdorf in mid-September. Notably, the traditional kickoff in Kranzegg has been canceled for 2026.

In Switzerland, the Zoo Zürich has welcomed a pair of endangered colobus monkeys. These primates, which face extinction due to deforestation and hunting, are part of a conservation effort and will eventually inhabit the zoo’s future Ndoki forest project.

Additionally, in the Canton of Zürich, rising wild boar populations are causing concerns for the agricultural sector, prompting calls for closer cooperation between farmers and hunting associations to manage crop damage.
