Poland pension systems face indexation and payment schedule changes
Poland's pension and social security landscape is undergoing various shifts. The Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) is preparing for accelerated payment schedules in late 2026 due to holidays and weekends, which may result in some seniors receiving two payments in a single month. Additionally, ZUS is addressing the issue of approximately 473,000 people receiving pensions below the minimum level.
In the agricultural sector, the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund (KRUS) is facing rising costs, with budget subsidies projected to exceed 30.5 billion PLN by 2027. Pension indexation for farmers is expected to occur in March 2027, with potential increases ranging from 3.48% to 4.29% depending on government decisions. This indexation will also affect income thresholds for the '500 plus for the disabled' benefit.
Financial data shows that Open Pension Funds (OFE) have transferred approximately 12 billion PLN to ZUS by the end of September, exceeding annual projections due to a stock market boom. Meanwhile, comparative data reveals significant disparities in average pensions across professions: miners receive the highest (approx. 7,965 PLN gross), followed by teachers (approx. 4,470 PLN gross), while entrepreneurs and railway workers receive lower amounts.
Other developments include the implementation of senior vouchers in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship to provide care services, and a technical maintenance period for the mObywatel app affecting land registry and KRS services.
