ZUS manages pension recalculations and benefit updates in Poland
The Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) and various legislative bodies are managing several updates regarding pension benefits and social assistance.
For women who were members of Open Pension Funds (OFE), ZUS will automatically recalculate pensions upon reaching age 65. While this provides a target pension, some recipients, particularly those receiving family pensions, may see a decrease in total monthly payments. Additionally, ZUS emphasizes that many seniors can increase their benefits by submitting applications to recalculate pensions based on newly found employment documents or additional contributions made after retirement.
Regarding new social programs, the Polish Senate and Sejm have declined to move forward with legislative work on petitions proposing additional monthly payments for seniors (such as the '800 plus' or '1600 plus' concepts) intended to compensate for raising children.
ZUS also issued reminders regarding the '800 plus' child benefit, noting that parents must apply within three months of a child's birth to receive retroactive payments. Furthermore, the November 2026 payment schedule will see shifts due to holidays, with some seniors receiving payments earlier than usual, while others may experience longer gaps between transfers.
Other notable updates include the availability of training pensions (renta szkoleniowa) for those changing careers due to health issues, and the eligibility of entrepreneurs for caregiver allowances if they are covered by sickness insurance.
