ZUS finalizes 14th pension payouts in Poland
The Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) is finalizing the distribution of the 14th pension, with total payouts exceeding 9.2 billion PLN gross to approximately 6.3 million beneficiaries. While most recipients have received their payments, a final group of 23,600 individuals receiving pre-retirement benefits is expected to receive funds by October 1. ZUS will subsequently issue over 6.2 million formal decisions regarding these payments.
Looking ahead to 2027, government forecasts suggest a pension indexation rate of approximately 3.96%, up from previous estimates of 3.48%. This increase would affect basic pensions, minimum benefits, and various supplements. Additionally, the energy allowance (ryczałt energetyczny) for eligible groups, such as combatants, is set at 336.16 PLN monthly starting March 2026, with potential increases in 2027 based on energy price indices.
Administrative reforms are also being discussed to address inefficiencies, such as the practice of paying monthly pensions as low as 2 groszy, where processing costs exceed the benefit amount. The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy is considering moving such minimal payments to a quarterly or annual schedule. Furthermore, MSWiA has issued over 2,700 positive decisions to restore benefits to individuals previously affected by de-communization laws, resulting in approximately 436 million PLN in adjustments.
