ZUS expands rehabilitation eligibility to physiotherapists in Poland

Over the past ten years, the Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has provided therapeutic rehabilitation to more than 31,200 residents of the Kuyavian‑Pomeranian voivodeship and over 21,500 residents of the Podlaskie voivodeship. Nationwide, the programme assisted about 631,300 people between 2016 and 2025.

From 13 April 2026, physiotherapists employed by ZUS will also be authorised to issue decisions on the need for rehabilitation, widening access to the service. The programme targets individuals whose health conditions put their ability to work at risk, covering musculoskeletal disorders, circulatory and respiratory diseases, psychosomatic conditions, oncological after‑care, voice‑organ ailments and central‑nervous‑system disorders.

Applicants must obtain a referral from their treating physician, who completes form PR‑4 and may submit it electronically via the eZUS portal or the mZUS app. Krystyna Michałek, regional press spokesperson for ZUS in the Kuyavian‑Pomeranian voivodeship, explained the new role of physiotherapists and the referral process.
