Poland implements various pension and social benefit updates

Poland's Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) and the government are managing various updates to the pension and social benefit systems. Key developments include the widow's pension, which currently allows for a combination of benefits, with a planned increase in the second benefit's share from 15% to 25% starting in 2025. In September, ZUS will automatically distribute the 'fourteenth pension' (czternastka), a supplementary payment of up to 1,978.49 PLN gross for those below certain income thresholds.

Legislative discussions are also underway regarding 'seniority pensions' (emerytury stażowe), which could allow men and women to retire earlier based on years of service rather than age. Additionally, specific groups, such as those born between 1949 and 1968 who worked in special conditions, may qualify for earlier retirement.

Financial adjustments are also occurring: from September 2026, new income limits will apply to those receiving early retirement or disability pensions, potentially leading to reduced or suspended benefits if earnings exceed specific thresholds. Furthermore, a government project aims to recalculate pensions for specific birth cohorts to address previous reductions, potentially increasing monthly payments by up to 552 PLN. Other updates include a rise in funeral grants to 7,000 PLN effective January 2026 and the 'Mama 4+' supplementary benefit for parents of at least four children.
