ZUS provides monthly benefits for parents of four or more children

The Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) provides supplementary parental benefits, commonly known as ‘Mama 4+’, to individuals who raised at least four children. As of April 2026, approximately 60,000 people were receiving this monthly support.

The benefit is designed for parents whose caregiving responsibilities prevented them from maintaining formal employment or accumulating sufficient insurance seniority to secure a minimum pension. Following a recent indexation, the maximum monthly benefit amount reached 1,978.49 PLN, which aligns with the current minimum pension. The average supplementary amount is approximately 1,083.23 PLN.

While the program is primarily utilized by mothers over the age of 60, fathers over 65 may also qualify under specific circumstances, such as when the mother has passed away, abandoned the children, or has been unable to provide care for an extended period. The government is currently analyzing potential expansions of the program to equalize rights between mothers and fathers; if both parents were eligible, the combined monthly support could reach up to 3,956 PLN.
