ZUS requires student family pension certificates by October 31

Students receiving family pensions from the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) in Poland must submit certificates from their educational institutions by October 31 to confirm continued studies. Failure to meet this deadline will result in the loss of the pension payment for October.

The requirement applies to students who began their studies in October and those whose previous certificates were valid for only one academic year and have since expired. Students whose universities issued certificates covering their entire period of study are not required to resubmit documentation.

Family pensions following the death of a parent are generally available to children until age 16, or until age 25 if they are continuing their education. An exception exists for students who turn 25 during their final year of study, allowing them to receive benefits until the end of that academic year. Additionally, children who became totally incapacitated for work before age 16 or during their studies before age 25 are eligible regardless of age or study status.

Students are also obligated to immediately notify ZUS of any changes that affect their eligibility or the amount of the benefit, such as the interruption or completion of their studies. Failure to report such changes may result in the requirement to return overpaid funds along with interest.
