ZUS shows high earnings required for 4,000‑zł pension in Poland

Poland’s Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) calculator indicates that a 40‑year‑old who wants a monthly pension of 4,000 zł in about 25 years must earn more than 9,000 zł gross per month if male, and roughly 11,000 zł if female. The pension amount depends on the total contributions accrued, the age at retirement, and the life‑expectancy forecast published annually by the Central Statistical Office. ZUS also applies an annual indexation to saved capital each June; the 2024 rate is expected to be between 14.2 % and 14.3 %.

For beneficiaries of a family pension, ZUS advises applying for an individual pension upon reaching the statutory retirement age (60 for women, 65 for men). Once they obtain pensioner status, they may earn without any income limits and are not required to submit annual earnings reports to ZUS. Current limits for those still below retirement age are 6,694.10 zł (full pension) and 12,431.80 zł (partial reduction); exceeding 130 % of the average wage results in a temporary suspension of benefits. If the calculated personal pension is lower than the existing family pension, ZUS can continue paying the higher amount at the retiree’s request.
