ZUS updates pension payouts, indexation rules, and benefit requirements
The Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) and the Council of Ministers have issued several updates regarding pension and benefit regulations. ZUS has completed the distribution of the 14th pension for 2026, totaling over 9.2 billion PLN gross to nearly 6.3 million recipients. Following these payments, ZUS is beginning to send official decision letters to over 6.29 million people.
Regarding future adjustments, the Council of Ministers has set the statutory minimum for the 2027 pension indexation at 20 percent of the real wage growth, plus inflation. This decision follows a lack of consensus in the Social Dialogue Council. Additionally, a new parliamentary project is under consultation that proposes a new condition for receiving the minimum pension: beneficiaries would need to have accumulated pension contributions equal to at least 25 times the minimum wage.
Other updates include the requirements for KRUS agricultural pensions, which necessitate 25 years of insurance and reaching age 60 for women or 65 for men. ZUS also noted that widow's pensions are seeing increased support, with the second component rising to 25 percent of the family pension starting in 2025. Furthermore, a specific energy lump sum of 336.16 PLN is available for certain groups, such as combatants and widows of combatants, to assist with electricity costs.
