Zustissia film depicts major Italian judicial error

The film ‘Zustissia’, directed by Francesco Piras, has been released in cinemas. The movie is based on the book ‘Io sono innocente’, which was co-written by the real-life protagonists: Beniamino Zuncheddu and lawyer Mauro Trogu.

The story depicts one of Italy’s most significant judicial errors. In January 1991, following a quadruple homicide in Sinnai, Beniamino Zuncheddu was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment after only 16 days of proceedings. After 25 years of wrongful detention, Zuncheddu was eventually acquitted on January 26, 2024, after lawyer Mauro Trogu, working pro bono, re-examined the case with the help of legal authorities and public attention.

The film features Michele Riondino, Fabrizio Ferracane, and Geppi Cucciari, exploring the fracture between law and justice through the lens of this historical miscarriage of justice.
