Zwijndrecht and Barendrecht install new child mayors

The municipalities of Zwijndrecht and Barendrecht in the Netherlands have officially installed new child mayors to represent the interests and voices of local youth.

In Zwijndrecht, 10-year-old Berat has been inaugurated alongside five new child ambassadors. Berat aims to focus on creating a safe environment where children can play and participate in community life. The group will meet regularly with Mayor Leon Anink to discuss topics such as the living environment and meeting places for young people.

In Barendrecht, nearly 11-year-old Jasmijn Schuurmans has taken over the role from Amin Imsirovic. Jasmijn intends to advocate for the right of every child to participate in sports and play, working to make the municipality a safer and more enjoyable place for youth. She will also fulfill ceremonial duties alongside Mayor Ronald Schneider at various official events.
