ZWO announces Seestar S50 Pro smart telescope

ZWO has introduced the Seestar S50 Pro, an upgraded smart telescope designed for automated astrophotography. The device features a 50mm aperture telephoto lens with a 4-element apochromatic optical system and a 1/1.2 inch 4K CMOS sensor, providing significantly more light-gathering capability than previous models.

A key innovation is the inclusion of a second wide-angle camera with a 6mm focal length and F/1.75 aperture, specifically designed to capture the Milky Way, constellations, and star trails. The telescope is controlled via a smartphone app, which automates object recognition, tracking, and image processing.

Additional features include a built-in light pollution filter for urban use, a lens heater to prevent fogging during long exposures, and an equatorial mode to resolve field rotation issues. The device is available for pre-order at a launch price of $899, with shipments expected to begin in late 2026.
