Zwolle social services face delays and PostNL reports welfare concerns

In Zwolle, residents are facing significant delays when seeking assistance from the Social Neighborhood Team. While the municipality aims to meet with residents within six weeks, an inventory from October 1 revealed that three out of eight teams are experiencing wait times of ten to twelve weeks. The municipal executive attributed these delays to staff illness, personnel turnover, and an unexpected surge in applications during the summer period.

Separately, PostNL has reported that its delivery drivers have raised concerns about the well-being of local residents 2,000 times since April 2024. Through the ‘Ik maak me zorgen’ (I am worried) initiative, which operates in 336 municipalities, postal workers report signs of potential trouble—such as overflowing mailboxes, closed curtains, or neglected gardens—to welfare organizations. These reports have helped identify individuals facing loneliness, financial distress, or medical emergencies.
