Zwolle to restrict access to 34 PMD containers to improve recycling

The municipality of Zwolle and waste management company ROVA are implementing changes to 34 public PMD containers (plastic, metal, and drink cartons) over the coming months. To improve the quality of collected waste, these containers—primarily located near shopping centers—will soon require a ROVA pass for access.

Currently, many public containers suffer from contamination by incorrect waste, which hinders the recycling process and leads to unnecessary incineration and costs. Alderman Paul Guldemond stated that the goal is to ensure the right waste reaches the right container to facilitate better material reuse.

These public containers are intended as supplementary collection points for residents, such as during holidays or when home collection is missed. Residents who wish to use them must request access via a digital form on the ROVA website by providing the specific container number.
