Zydus Lifesciences to build $20M pharmaceutical plant in Sri Lanka
Zydus Sunshine Lifesciences, a joint venture between Zydus Lifesciences and Sunshine Healthcare, has signed an agreement with the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka to establish a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The plant will be located in the Horana investment zone on approximately four acres of land.
The project involves a phased investment exceeding $20 million. Production is scheduled to begin in 2028, subject to regulatory approvals and project timelines. During the initial phase, the facility will manufacture oral solid medicines, such as tablets and capsules, specifically for the Sri Lankan market.
This initiative aims to strengthen Zydus’ international presence and enhance the local medicine supply chain in Sri Lanka to ensure the availability of essential supplies. The joint venture, which was originally announced in June 2026, is a 50/50 partnership between Zydus and Sunshine Healthcare, a subsidiary of Sunshine Holdings PLC.
