The 2026 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, continue to serve as a critical qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The event remains marked by controversy regarding the participation of Russian athletes; while the Russian men’s team is competing under the neutral designation ‘World Gymnastics 2’, the absence of elite female athletes due to visa denials has drawn criticism from the Kremlin. Qualification rounds have yielded mixed results for various national teams. The Dutch men’s team secured seventh place to qualify for the team final, with Elijah Faverus and Jermain Grünberg also advancing to the all-around finals. Casimir Schmidt contributed to the Dutch success despite a recent shoulder injury. The German women’s team remains in a strong position for the team final, trailing only the USA after the first qualification round, highlighted by Helen Kevric’s performance on the uneven bars. However, Karina Schönmaier missed the vault final following a fall. The German men’s team finished 15th, missing the team final, though Timo Eder qualified for the all-around final. Austrian gymnasts faced contrasting outcomes. Gino Vetter and Leni Bohle failed to qualify for the all-around finals following routine errors, including falls for both athletes. Despite this, Charlize Mörz secured 15th place in the individual vault rankings, and Vetter managed to qualify for the horizontal bar final, describing his performance as a ‘step forward’. In a historic setback, the Romanian women’s team finished 19th in qualifications with a total score of 151.996, failing to qualify for the team final and missing direct qualification spots for the 2028 Olympics. Consequently, Romania will have no female representatives in any individual finals. In the individual all-around, Alexia Blănaru, Anamaria Mihăescu, and Iris Iordache placed 52nd, 54th, and 85th, respectively, while Nicholas Țarcă finished 80th on the men’s side.
