The 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya featured strong performances from Chinese athletes across multiple disciplines. In gymnastics, Zhang Boheng of China retained his men’s individual all-around title with 85.065 points, narrowly defeating Japan’s Oka Shinnosuke. The Chinese men’s team also secured its third consecutive title, while the women’s team earned its 14th consecutive gold medal. China’s success extended into swimming, where 19-year-old Zhang Zhanshuo won seven gold medals, equaling the Games record set in 1982. His victories included individual titles in the 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1,500m freestyle, as well as three relay golds. Zhang set a Games record in the 400m freestyle with a time of 3:41.28. During the six-day swimming event, China secured 30 gold medals and 54 total medals. Additionally, Xu Jiayu became the most decorated Chinese athlete in the competition's history with 15 gold medals. In Japanese competition, 17-year-old Shin Ohashi set a new world record in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:04.83. China also secured gold medals in shooting events and the women’s 100m sprint. In track and field, 17-year-old Chen Yujie claimed the women’s 100m gold with a Games record of 11.06 seconds, while Thailand’s Puripol Boonson won the men’s 100m in 9.90 seconds. The Chinese delegation has since reached a milestone of 100 gold medals, supported by successes in shooting, diving, and canoeing.
