Following the 2026 BRICS Summit in India, where unverified claims of a ‘severe ischemic stroke’ were dismissed by Indian and Chinese officials, speculation regarding President Xi Jinping’s health has intensified during his visit to the United States. During a summit at the White House with U.S. President Donald Trump, the Chinese delegation reportedly made several ‘unusual’ requests to accommodate Xi’s needs. According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, the delegation requested a private room in the West Wing to allow Xi rest periods between appointments, with access reportedly restricted to his wife, Peng Liyuan. Additionally, a planned working lunch with President Trump was canceled, creating a five-hour gap in the schedule prior to the state banquet. Observers noted physical signs that fueled further discussion, including Xi appearing to rely heavily on Peng Liyuan for support while navigating stairs at both the National Archives and upon arrival at Andrews Air Force Base. While these incidents have prompted international speculation, some analysts suggest the changes may reflect a highly managed schedule to minimize physical strain, noting his recent absence from a formal dinner at the BRICS summit as part of a potential pattern. President Trump stated in a recent interview that Xi Jinping’s health was ‘very good.’
