2026 Folha University Ranking results in Brazil

Overview

The 2026 Ranking Universitário Folha (RUF) has released its evaluations of 205 higher education institutions in Brazil.

In the federal university category, the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) secured the top position, marking its first time reaching first place among federal institutions. In the overall national ranking, the University of São Paulo (USP) led with 99.10 points, followed by the University of Campinas (Unicamp) in second place.

Regarding state institutions, the State University of Maringá (UEM) was named the best state institution in Southern Brazil for the fourth consecutive year. UEM maintained its 27th place in the overall national ranking with a score of 80.66 points. The university’s academic performance includes 11 courses ranked among the top 20 nationally, specifically Physical Education (9th), Chemistry (10th), and both Chemical Engineering and Mathematics (11th). Within the state of Paraná, UEM was one of three state universities to maintain its previous ranking, alongside the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG) and the State University of Northern Paraná (Uenp).

Additionally, the State University of Mato Grosso (Unemat) rose 14 positions in the national ranking, moving from 112th in 2025 to 98th in 2026. Unemat’s overall score increased from 44.60 to 47.74 points, driven by an improvement in teaching quality, which rose from 117th to 97th place. At the Tangará da Serra campus, most evaluated courses saw improvements, including Civil Engineering (56th) and Biological Sciences (55th), though the Administration program fell from 70th to 159th place.
