The 2026 wildfire season in Albania, which saw significant outbreaks in August across regions like Vlora, Tirana, and Krujë, continued into early September. By 4 September, massive wildfires impacted several regions, with particularly severe damage reported in the tourist destination of Himarë. In the ‘1 Maji’ neighborhood, the fire destroyed several inhabited and unoccupied homes and damaged olive groves. Approximately 36 residents and various tourists were evacuated from high-risk areas. The Ministry of Defense reported 21 fire outbreaks nationwide, with 11 remaining active. Significant firefighting operations were underway in Fier, Shkodër, Mat, and Dajt. In Fier, fires affected forests and olive plantations, necessitating the evacuation of about 15 families. Emergency response efforts included 550 members of the Armed Forces and aerial support from four helicopters and one Air Tractor aircraft. On 6 September, the Ministry of Defense reported 20 fire outbreaks, with 11 remaining active, 7 under surveillance, and 2 extinguished. Major firefighting efforts were concentrated at Dajti Mountain, utilizing military personnel, vehicles, and helicopters. Additional active fires were reported in Kavajë, Dibër (Lundre–Madhesh area), Lezhë (Kalivaç–Zimaj–Kashnjet), and Shkodër (Bardhaj–Myselim), where two military helicopters were deployed. Other active fronts were noted in Fushë-Arrëzit, Selenicë, and Poličan. Later that day, reports indicated that in Pukë, a fire in Mali i Tërbunit had spread over 10 kilometers through the forest canopy. In the Shkodër region, strong winds complicated containment efforts in Bardhaj–Myselim and Vau Dejës. While fires in Bërdicë were brought under control to protect residential areas, the Iballë–Fierzë zone remained difficult to access due to rugged terrain. By late evening on 6 September, multiple wildfires remained active across several regions, prompting a large-scale emergency response involving local civil protection and the Albanian Armed Forces. By late on 6 September, the Ministry of Defense noted dozens of outbreaks within a 24-hour period.
