The 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) progressed through the one-eighth and quarter-final stages in August 2026. During the one-eighth stage, St. Augustine’s College advanced to the quarter-finals following a controversial match involving concluded with Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon) securing a ~~walk-off by Anlo SHS and Kumasi High School.~~ record ninth title. In the quarter-finals, St. John’s School secured its first-ever semi-final appearance by defeating Saviour SHS and Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS. Other quarter-final results saw Bright Senior High School become the first private school in the competition's 33-year history to reach the semi-finals, following a significant comeback ~~victory over Chemu Senior High Technical School and Amaniampong Senior High School. Additionally, PRESEC-Legon eliminated~~ during the ~~defending champions, Mfantsipim School, to advance. In~~ grand finale at the ~~semi-finals,~~ University of Ghana, PRESEC-Legon overcame an early deficit where they trailed both St. Augustine’s College ~~secured a spot in the grand finale after a dominant performance against Prempeh College~~ and ~~Pope John SHS & Min. Sem., finishing~~ Accra Academy with 48 only 9 points. They ultimately finished with 40 points, defeating Accra Academy ~~also achieved a historic milestone by qualifying for the Grand Finale for the first time, scoring 54 points to surpass Bright Senior High School~~ (33 points) and ~~Achimota School. Accra Academy will join~~ St. Augustine’s College ~~and PRESEC-Legon in the upcoming championship contest. Ahead of the grand finale, alumni of~~ (27 points). The finale featured notable support from alumni. St. Augustine’s ~~College, known as ‘APSUNIANS’, announced~~ College supporters pledged a ~~GH¢110,000 motivational cash package~~ GH¢120,000 package, while Accra Academy alumni established an educational fund to provide full tertiary scholarships for their contestants.
