Overview

Concurrently, a magnitude‑7.1 earthquake struck Kumamoto, raising concerns that rescue and relief operations could be hampered if the typhoon arrives. Japan also faced a severe heat wave, with heat‑stroke alerts issued for 31 prefectures, adding public‑health pressures as residents prepare for heavy rain, high waves and possible storm‑surge flooding.
