This performance, alongside Samoa’s 78-4 win over France, underscores the rising influence of Tier Two nations. England’s men’s team later secured a dominant 82-0 victory over France. England is has now ~~nearing elimination~~ been eliminated from the tournament following a 34-12 victory over Papua New Guinea in Wollongong. Although England established an early 22-0 lead through tries from Matty Ashton, AJ Brimson, Dominic Young, and Harry Smith, the team struggled with discipline, committing 21 errors and allowing the Kumuls to score twice. This elimination marks the first time in the ~~tournament's~~ 72-year ~~history.~~ history of the tournament that England has failed to reach the semi-finals. In other tournament action, France delivered a dominant performance in their opening match, defeating Scotland 114-0.
