The 28th Santo Domingo International Book Fair (FILSD 2026) has named Panama as its guest of honor. Scheduled to take place from September 24 to October 4, 2026, at the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, the event aims to foster regional integration and cultural exchange in Latin America. Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo announced that the fair will feature over 70 international writers and approximately 800 activities, including workshops, conferences, and musical performances. The edition will also honor poet and essayist José Mármol, with the Editora Nacional releasing three of his works. The Dominican Ministry of Culture intends to use the platform to connect local writers with international publishers and expand the global reach of Dominican literature. Panama’s participation, led by its Minister of Culture, will include a diverse program featuring 35 writers, such as Monique Mulino, Julio Shebel, Sowy Serrano, and Cheri Lewis. The Panamanian delegation will also present a film showcase at the Cinemateca Dominicana and performances by the National Ballet, the Folkloric Ballet, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Panama. The event will further commemorate the Bicentennial of the Amphictyonic Congress of Panama to highlight regional integration. Additionally, journalist and writer Jaime Bayly is set to participate in the fair. In conjunction with the cultural festivities, Panama Fashion Week 2026 will be held at Ciudad de las Artes from September 24 to 27. Under the theme ‘The Art of Shape,’ the fashion event will showcase designers from seven countries, including Panama, Colombia, and Spain, while incorporating charity shows to benefit the Oncology Hospital and FUNDANA. As the event approaches, Minister Salcedo inspected preparations at the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte. The fair is expected to host 32 international publishing houses, 21 national publishers, and 44 Dominican bookstores.
